Mayas Survive a Furious Eagles Comeback and Reclaim Their Victory in Epic Fashion

Eagles 24-27 Mayas It was a great day for a football game. The tone was set in the "Palillo" stadium to continue the activities for week 5 of the LFA Football tournament. The actors were more than ready. Eagles and Mayas knew perfectly what was at stake  – w in and take the leadership of the Suerox Division , or go home thinking about your damaged aspirations for the playoff dream. The first quarter opened hostilities with the Eagles choosing to receive the football immediately. A not so wise decision, given that Vladimir Araiza, N. 33, muffed the kickoff and left the Mayas team in their own 1-yard-line mark. Raúl Mateos, N.18, started as QB and began making plays with his legs, giving the Eagles room to breathe and operate their first offensive series. Then, Mateos made the first connection with Araiza, N. 33, to grant a first down and keeping their attack close to midfield. A couple of creative option plays showed the versatility of Mateos work, who pu

Jurassic Matchup in LFA: Dinos Visits Raptors

Now, both winner teams in week 1 face each other in a new stadium, adapted for football LFA in Naucalpan, Mexico State  (10 miles from Mexico City.) This stadium willl be the house of the Raptors from Mexico State. Dinos from Satillo won in what it seems to be an easy game for them. They had multiple-TD passes; an interception returned to TD; and a great defense that was able to pressure the QB. On the other hand, the Raptors had a demanding game against the Condors. They were tied with just 6 points in the first half. Then, QB, Bruno Marquez was able to make some interesting plays, he scored a TD and won the game. The keys for the game will be for Saltillo defense to press the QB, and keep a spy, because Bruno Marquez is a really mobile QB. Until now, Saltillo is the strongest team in the north, it used to play under the sun with high temperatures. In my opinion, they will be able to adapt to conditions easily in Mexico State. In the last profesional football league, the extin

Raptors Beat the Condors 13-10

In a clearly defensive matchup, the Raptors have their first win against Condors, which was able to dominate the first half. Still, the Raptors did the adjustments to go with their QB, former Condor, Bruno Marquez.

LFA: First Week Hits and Problems

This weekend started the Mexican Football League LFA. There was a great expectation of the second season of the league. There were new teams on the north, new players, and more media coverage. And we were expecting to be more professional. In this post I will point out some of the hits and problems that the league had in general during the first week. As a hit, I believe that diversifying the location of some teams will allow more people to go to these games in different cities such as in Saltillo, Monterrey or Naucalpan. The matchups were really intresting and most of them were fun and entertaining. That is the main point of this league and sport. And finally, I saw some improvement in the way players performed. The same players looked in a high level of game phisically and mentally. On the other hand , there were problems with the organization and the staff. First of all, the streaming was failing. The league charged 499 mexican pesos (25USD) to watch the 24 games of the league,

Professional Bullies (Porros) in Public Colleges as Deterrrence for Football Fans in Mexico

This term " porros " (bullies) comes from the Spanish word  Porra, witch means "cheer". And it comes from the first football games played in Mexico, back in 1936 (Sánchez:2004). Nowadays, they are pseudo students organized in groups in public universities and highschools. They are financed by local and federal authorities. The activities they perform are to intimidate, mainly, activist and student movilizations inside the campuses. The interesting thing about them is that they also intimidate, create fights, and riots at football games. Coincidence?  I dont think so. Football was, before the student uprising and massacre in Tlatelolco in October 2th 1968, the first sport in Mexico, shared by the baseball fans. What happened? Well, according to Robert Andrew Powell, from Bletcher Report, part of the student uprising in 1968 against the politcal repression and the corruption of the political regime started after a football game. A classic game: the National Universi
